The Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) program arose from the experience of IEDs during the Iraq War.
The M1278 Heavy Guns Carrier (JLTV-HGC) has a crew of four when armed with a remote weapons system (RWS) or five when fitted with an open top turret. It can be armed with the M2 .50calibre machine gun or Mk-19 grenade launcher and supports Gunner's Protection Kit or RWS.
