King Tiger (Henschel Production)
The Tiger II (Sd Kfz 182) was ordered in January 1943 to provide a tank capable of housing the 8.8cm L/71 gun. The first 50 King Tiger produced had the original Porsche designed turret. This was later replaced by a Henschel designed turret.
Seeing extensive action in Normandy 1944 the King Tiger also served in the Ardennes offensive in the winter of 1944 and on the Eastern Front. While they could take on and eliminate enemy tanks with ease, they were never available in sufficient numbers.
