Developed in 1933, the aim was to produce a simple and reliable truck of a lighter class (2.5tons) to be produced under a number of companies in collaboration. Einheits Diesels were also used in a number of other roles such as field kitchens, fire tenders and crane mounts. Production started in 1937 and continued until 1940. By this time over 10,000 had rolled off the production lines across 7 manufacturers.
