The Elefant designated Sd Kfz 184, was designed with the Tiger (P) chassis as the basis. Mounting a 8.8cm KwK Pak43/2 L/71. The initial delivery of 90 vehicles were ready by the end of May 1943 and were used in the summer offensive at Kursk. Initial Ferdinands had no secondary armament but this was later add to the Elefant in the form of a hull 7.92mm MG34.
