The Mk III entered service in 1989 with vehicles being handed to the 188th Brigade of the IDF (Israeli Defensive Force). The Mk III is armed with a 120mm cannon, 3 turret mounted machine guns and a 60mm mortar installed in the turret. The Mk III D features strengthened tracks and installation of R-OWS, the Rafael Overhead Weapon Station. The LIC varaint is designed for urban warfare with the LIC denoting "Low Intensity Conflict".
