The M1A2 Abrams is the standard battle tank of the US Forces and first entered service in 1978 as the M1. As a result of vulnerability of the M1A2 in urban fighting both SEP (System Enhancement Package) and TUSK (Tank Urban Survival Kit) modifications were made. The combat effectiveness of the M1A2 has been proven in both Kuwait and Iraq conflicts where it dominated the battlefield.
