M65 Atomic Cannon "Atomic Annie" 280mm Motorised Gun

Developed in the early 1950s, the M65 Atomic Cannon, known as "Atomic Annie" was a US motorised 280mm artillery piece capable of firing a nuclear device. Its design, and name, both derive from the German K5(E) railroad gun "Anzio Annie" The cannon was towed by two specially designed tractors capable of independent steering. It was tested on May 25th 1953, firing a 15kt shell for 7 miles. This was the first and only firing of a nuclear shell from a cannon. Twenty were manufactured.
