The M3 Grant was the British version of the American M3 Lee tank and was introduced in response to Allied tanks being outgunned. The M3 mounted a 75mm in the right sponson and a 37mm in the turret. The tank crews experienced problems in trying to get the vehicle into hull down positions and still be able to fire the 75mm. As a result, the M3 presented a very high silhouette for German gunners. Eventually the M3 was replaced by the M4 Sherman.
