Ho-Ni 75mm Tank Destroyer

Based on the Type97 Chi-Ha chassis, the Type 1 Ho-Ni mounted a 75mm gun in an open turret. Following initial encounters with the M4 Sherman, the Type 97 Chi-Ha's 57mm main armament proved insufficient to take on Allied armour. As a result the Japanese developed the Ho-Ni - a conversion was little more than a standard 75mm Type 90 Field gun attached to a turretless Type 97. The Ho-Ni was only armoured at the front and sides with 50mm of armour leaving it vulnerable in combat.
