WWI Mk I 'Female' Tank

The Mk I Female was armed with four Vickers and Hotchkiss machine guns which, in combat, were more effective than the heavier 6 pounder guns on the Male tank. As a result, more Female tanks were produced than Male. Initially the large wheels behind the tank were to assist steering but these were subsequently dropped. Around 150 Mk Is were built with some being captured and utilised by the Germans who repainted and re-armed them.
