These tractors were supplied to both Infantry and Tank units with four supply tractors for each of the three Companies. By the time of the German invasion of France in 1940 there were 606 in service which was still not enough to equip the French army. Around one third of French units had no supply tractors. During the Battle For France it was quickly reaslised that Lorraine 37Ls needed some sort of armament and machine guns were fitted on improvised mounts to some vehicles.
