M106 Mortar Carrier & Crew

The M113 was the result of a mid-1950's US requirement for a lightweight, armoured infantry vehicle. Production began in the 1960s, since when 70,000 have been built and exported to nearly 50 countries. The M106 was a Mortar Carrier variant with a 107mm (4.2inch) M30 mortar which was fired through a large circular roof hatch in the rear hull of the vehicle. Subsequent variants M106A1 with a diesel engine and M106A2 with the M113A2 improvements followed.
