ZIS-2 57mm Anti Tank Gun

The ZIS-2 57mm Anti Tank gun was developed in 1940 and production started on 1st June 1941. Production was stopped 6 months later after the production of only 371 guns with the explanation that the ZIS-2 shells would go right through the weakly armoured German tanks doing little harm inside. Following the appearance of the Tiger I and Panther, the smaller calibre guns could not penetrate their armour.
