Seeing extensive action in the North African desert, the M3 Lee was the US main medium tank (modified for the British as the General Grant Mk I) and was introduced in response to the problem of Allied tanks being outgunned by German equivalents. Around 900 M3 Lee and Grant tanks being shipped to the Indian army with some seeing action against the Japanese in Burma.
