FV-601 Alvis Saladin Armoured Car

The FV-601 Saladin Armoured Car was designed in 1954 by Crossley Motors for the British Army. It replaced the AEC Armoured Car from 1958 onwards. They were well suited for operations in the desert and were picked up by a number of Middle Eastern armies as a result. They were fitted with a 76mm low pressure rifled L5A1 gun which fired the same ammunition as the FV-101 Scorpion Light Tank. Production of the Saladin continued until 1972 with 1,172 built.
