Type 1 Chi-He Japanese Medium Tank

The Type 3 Chi-He was an improvised Type 97 Chi-Ha with a Type 1 47mm main gun and two 7.7mm Type97 machine guns. Work began on the Type 1 in 1943 with it designed to be able to stand up to the M4 Sherman. However it didn't enter production as a result of steel production being prioritsd for the Imperial Japanese Navy. All Chi-He were reserved for defence of the Japanese home islands. The Chi-He design was replaced by the Type 3 Chi-Nu. Between 1943 and 1944 a total of 170 Chi-He were built.
