M109 155mm Self Propelled Howitzer (US Army)

The M109 was introduced in the early 1960s to provide indirect fire support to armoured and mechanised infantry divisions. The M109 was introduced in 1963 and was armed with a 155mm M126 cannon in a M127 howitzer mount with stowage for 28 rounds. The 0.5cal has 500 rounds. It can be identifed by the short barrel, double muzzle brake and large fume extractor. British M109 have recently been replaced by AS-90 and European M109s by the German PzH2000.
