The Bishop was a self propelled 25 Pounder based on a Valentine chassis. Fulfilling a need for mobile artillery on the fast moving battlefields of North Africa the Bishop first saw service during the 2nd Battle of El Alamein in 1942. The Bishop remained in service during the Italian campaign although it was subsequently replaced by the US M7 'Priest' and the British Sexton.
