M3 Grant Canal Defence Light

By 1944, the British used the M3 in a special weapons role. It was fitted with a carbon-arc searchlight of 13 million candle power to be used to illuminate the enemy and dazzle them in a "field of death" measuring 34 by 340 yards and up to a range of 1,000 yards. The dazzling approach was provided by the search light and application of blinking coloured lights to disorientate and confuse particulary where multiple CDL operated together. The 75mm gun allowed the tank to engage enemy targets.
