The Hotchkiss H35 was developed by the French in 1933 and entered service in 1936. The H35 had a crew of two, commander and driver. It was originally armed with the 37mm SA18 gun with 100 rounds and a 7.5mm Reibel machine gun. In 1938 an improved engine was fitted and the tank, while still officially designated H35, was often referred to as the H38 Series D. After the fall of France, the Germans captured around 550 Hotchkiss which were used for internal security and training.
