4.2" Mortar (1941-45)

The 4.2" mortar was originally designed as a chemical weapon used for laying smoke or firing gas shells during WWI. It had been developed from the British Stokes 3" mortar. By WWII, there was a need to fire HE shells over longer distances and the 4.2" mortar was modified to fire High Explosive by strengthening the barrel and baseplate and using more powder to fire shells. These mortars were deployed in Sicily and in North West Europe during WWII. This metal kit depicts a WWII version
