Short Stirling BI/II/III

The Stirling was the first four engined bomber of WWII. The Stirling had a thick wing which limited its performance at altitude although this allowed the bomber to out turn the Ju-88 and ME Bf 110 Nightfighter. Its handling was considered by many to be better than the Halifax and Lancaster. A consequence of flying at low altitude amongst other bombers was the tendancy for the Luftwaffe to pick off the Stirlings first. A typical bomb loads was limited to 3,500lbs.
